The Sandstorm Story...

Sandstorm started life in Kenya as the leading manufacturer of premium safari tents. Now the same authentic materials and skills are being used to produce this stylish range of travel bags and accessories for discerning travellers worldwide. Each item is cut from robust 18oz 100% cotton canvas that has been specially treated to make it water-resistant. Every piece of leather has been finished using the ‘pull-up' technique to give it a worn appearance that actually improves with age. Double stitched stress points and solid brass fittings complete the Sandstorm specification.

Designed and handcrafted in Kenya to the highest safari-grade specification, Sandstorm draws its inspiration from the country's breathtaking beauty and its resilient wildlife.

All Sandstorm products are hand made by craftsmen and women who are highly skilled at both stitching and finishing. This craftsmanship comes from years of experience working with their hands, either weaving baskets and mats or making and maintaining fishing nets. It is this attention to detail which makes your Sandstorm bag unique.

Handmade by Skilled Craftsmen.

Most of the craftsmen are from the Luo tribe who come from an area known as the Lake Basin – the Kenya side of Lake Victoria . The Luo tribespeople are particularly good at stitching and are very particular in their work, maintaining close attention to detail. This harks back to their heritage of making baskets and repairing fishing nets around Lake Victoria .

The Production Process.

The fine leather hides are hand selected and an individual skin is chosen for each bag. The leather and all its components are then hand cut from this one piece. We apply this same technique for both the canvas and the lining material ensuring continuity and quality in every product.

Once the components have been cut they are then moved to the machine room for assembly. Your Sandstorm bag is then assembled in its entirety to the highest international standard by one individual craftsman. There is no production line here! The finished article is then taken to be examined by our stringent quality control team, individually sealed and dispatched to waiting customers around the world.
